About Us

Camp Bloom is Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency (DCARA)’s newest camp geared for our next generation of Deaf* children aged 6 months to 11 years old and their families in Northern California. Our goal is to build a bridge for new families to meet the thriving Deaf* Community in Northern California through a weekend family camp.

DCARA seeks to enrich the connection between our young Deaf* generation, their families and the community right from the first hello and long after. Along with Deaf* Camp Bloom counselors, it will be a weekend full of fun activities such as ASL storytelling at bonfires, rock climbing, petting zoo, arts and crafts, swimming pool and much more at The Taylor Family Foundation’s Camp Arroyo in Livermore, CA.

Throughout Camp Bloom, DCARA will model ways to increase inclusiveness in hearing families with Deaf* children, such as using “Sign and Dine” tools during meals. We also will share information and resources on fostering language development during the first 11 years of Deaf* children’s lives. The ultimate goal of Camp Bloom is to strengthen the connection between Deaf* children aged 6 months to 11 years old, their families and the community.
